FIRST® Tech Challenge

FIRST® Tech Challenge teams (2 to 15 members, aged 12 to 18) are challenged to design, build, program and operate robots in order to participate in a duel competition in an alliance format.

Guided by adult coaches and mentors, students develop STEM skills and practice engineering principles (such as maintaining an engineering log), while learning the value of hard work, innovation, and sharing ideas. The robot kit is reusable year after year and can be programmed using various languages, including Java. Teams must also raise funds, design and market their brand, and conduct community outreach activities, for which they can be rewarded. Participants have access to tens of millions of dollars in college scholarships.

Each season ends with super-regional championships and an exciting FIRST® championship.

CURRENT SEASON

Every relic we unearth holds a story. Every tool, every innovation, every work of art connects us to the people and ideas that came before us. Thanks to skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), as well as teamwork, we can now push discoveries further than ever before.

Welcome to FIRST® AGE™, presented by Qualcomm, our 2025-2026 robotics season inspired by archaeology. What will you discover in the FIRST® Tech Challenge?

"Through this adventure, the students discovered the power of teamwork, perseverance, and creativity. They learned to overcome technical setbacks through collective thinking, and above all, to believe in their ability to innovate."
