World Robot Olympiad is a robotics program whose mission is to help young people develop their creativity and problem-solving skills in a fun and engaging way through robotics competitions in four different categories for students aged 8 to 22.

The program is run by the World Robot Olympiad™ Association, which is an independent, non-profit organization whose goal is to promote robotics in STEM education worldwide.

WRO® tournaments are held in more than 100 countries worldwide.

In Morocco the program is operated by Robots & More in collaboration with the LOOP for Science & Technology association.

THE DIFFERENT CATEGORIES

Teams can choose to participate in one of the following categories:

 

  • ROBOMISSION: Build and program a robot that solves challenges on a terrain

  • ROBOSPORTS: Design 2 robots that compete against the robots of another team

  • FUTURE INNOVATORS: Working on a project, designing and building a robot to solve a real-world problem

  • FUTURE ENGINEERS: Working on an advanced robotics program following research trends

Age: Elementary: 8-12 | Juniors: 11-15 | Seniors: 14-19

Team size: 2-3 people guided by a coach

Materials: Free choice (restrictions in the manual)

Software: Free Choice

Maximum robot size: max. 25 x 25 x 25 cm

Features: Build and program a robot that solves challenges on a terrain.

Surprise rule announced on the day of the competition

FUTURE INNOVATORS

Age: Elementary: 8-12 | Juniors: 11-15 | Seniors: 14-19

Team size: 2-3 people guided by a coach

Materials: Free choice

Software: Free Choice

Maximum robot size: must fit in a 2 x 2 x 2 m stand

Features: Develop a robot project that helps solve real-world problems related to the season's theme.

Presentation before a jury that evaluates the team's work

 

Note: WRO Future Innovators was called the Open category until 2021

FUTURE ENGINEERS

Age: 14-22

Team size: 2-3 people guided by a coach

Materials: Free choice (restrictions in the manual)

Software: Free Choice

Maximum robot size: max. 30 x 30 x 30 cm

Features: Advanced robotics based on the latest research trends.

Surprise rule announced on the day of the competition

ROBOSPORTS

Age: 11-19

Team size: 2-3 people guided by a coach

Materials: Free Choice

Software: Free Choice

Maximum robot size:   Max. 20 x 20 x 20cm

Maximum weight: 1.2 kg

Features : Each team designs 2 robots to play against another team

(National Level)

Age: 6 to 12 years old

Team size: 2-3 people guided by a coach

Materials: based on LEGO® (WeDo or SPIKE Essential)

Software: Free Choice

Maximum robot size: max. 25 x 25 x 25 cm

Features: Build and program a robot that solves challenges on a terrain.

Surprise rule announced on the day of the competition

ROBOSTARTER SUMO
(National Level)

Age: 6-12 years

Team size:   1-2 people guided by a coach

Material :   based on LEGO®, Fischertechnik or Matrix

Software: Free Choice

Maximum robot size: Max. 25 x 25 x 25 cm, maximum weight 1 kg

Features: The goal of this challenge is to design robots capable of pushing themselves out of a circular playing field.

WRO Learn is a free e-learning platform developed by the World Robot Olympiad. It offers interactive courses in multiple languages for students, coaches, and judges, covering everything from the fundamentals of robotics to advanced modules for preparing for international competitions. Accessible to everyone, it provides clear and practical resources for learning, training, and innovating in the field of educational robotics.
